The reason to camp here rather than deeper in the mountains is the riding. Golden's 73-trail network starts about 2 km from camp, with the Moonraker trails about 5 km off, so this works well as a bike basecamp.
Cedar Lake sits about 5 km away when a swim sounds better than another lap.
