Privacy
What we collect
Your email address, so you can sign in. There are no passwords, signing in sends a one-time link to that address.
The planning data you create: favourited sites, private visit notes and ratings, saved trips, your vehicle details, your home town, and any availability watches. All of it is scoped to your account.
Campground reviews you post are the one exception, and they are public by design: the review text, your star rating, and your display name are visible to anyone visiting that campground's page, signed in or not. Posting is the opt-in — nothing you wrote before you posted a review is ever published, and your private visit notes are never part of it. You can edit or delete a review at any time.
Your chosen home town is also kept in a browser cookie so drive times work before you sign in.
How you use the app
We run product analytics to see which parts of the app people actually reach, because a feature nobody finds looks exactly like a feature nobody wants. It records page views, clicks and form interactions, your browser and the approximate location your network implies, and JavaScript errors when something breaks.
Some actions are also recorded by name, so we can tell whether they work: signing in and out, favouriting a site, saving or deleting a trip, starting or stopping an availability watch, and submitting the planner. These carry the id of the campsite, trip or watch involved, and the trip ones carry its region, length and rough driving distance. Once you're signed in they're attached to your account and your email address.
Your visit notes and ratings are never sent to analytics — not the text, not the scores, not even the fact that you wrote one.
Analytics keeps its own browser cookie so the same visitor is recognisable from page to page. These requests go out through this site rather than straight to the analytics provider, and your sign-in cookies are stripped off before they leave.
What we don't do
We don't sell your data, and we don't run advertising or third-party ad tracking. The analytics above measures how the app is used and goes nowhere else. Your visit notes stay private to your account — they are not the reviews, and we will not publish them. Community reviews are public, but only because you chose to post one; that choice is the only thing that ever makes your writing public here, and it stays reversible.
Where it's stored
In a hosted Postgres database. Usage analytics is held separately by our analytics provider, on servers in the EU. Campsite, weather and wildfire information comes from public sources, BC Parks, Rec Sites & Trails BC, Parks Canada, the BC Wildfire Service and Environment Canada, and contains nothing about you.
Deleting your data
Self-serve account deletion isn't built yet. Until it is, email [email protected] and your account and everything attached to it will be removed, including your analytics profile.
