SourceMonashee Provincial Park protects old-growth cedar, spruce and hemlock beneath some of the oldest rock formations in western Canada, in the snow-capped Monashee Range. Peters and Margie Lakes sit under 2,697 m Mount Fosthall, the park's highest point, and spring turns the alpine meadows into wildflower colour.
This undeveloped wilderness suits experienced backcountry hikers and willing beginners alike: camping with pit toilets and fire pits, fishing in the lakes, and the chance of mountain caribou or wolverine for the lucky, mule deer and pikas for everyone else.
It is far from everything, which is the point: Halcyon is about 26 km off and the nearest listed fuel about 41 km at the Cherryville Emporium. Arrive complete.
