About this site

Source

Side Bay sits on the west coast of Vancouver Island, a remote and rustic recreation site now managed in partnership with the 4 Wheel Drive Association of BC. You reach it through the community of Port Alice, and the roads out here are unmaintained, so the drive is part of the trip.

Four-wheel drive is the minimum and camping is first come, first served. There is a boat launch and swimming, and nothing else is on record, so come fully equipped.

Winter Harbour is about 22 km away, and the nearest fuel, Port Alice Petroleum, is about 32 km back, so the fuel stop has to happen well before you get here. O'Connell Lake is roughly 15 km off and Botel Lake about 19 km.
