SourceOn the Alberni Valley side of central Vancouver Island, Sproat Lake Provincial Park spreads two campgrounds and a large day-use area along a big freshwater lake. Short trails run through the park, and one leads to K’ak’awin, a panel of prehistoric petroglyphs at the east end of the lake, among the finest in the province.
There are 64 campsites on paved access, a mix of reservable and first come, first served, with fire pits, pit toilets and potable water. The lake handles swimming, fishing, water skiing and, when the wind comes up, windsurfing, and there is a boat launch.
Great Central is about 6.6 km away. Fuel is further out, roughly 14 km at Western Nations, so gas up before you turn off. Round Lake is about 6 km away and the Funship riding around 21 km.
