SourceGrassland is the surprise at Kalamalka Lake Provincial Park, on the Coldstream Valley side of the North Okanagan: open slopes dotted with ponderosa pine and groves of Douglas fir, with 432 vascular plant species recorded in a fairly small area. The spring wildflowers are the reason a lot of people walk it.
The park is largely undeveloped. Access is paved, pit toilets are on hand, and the lake supports swimming, fishing and a boat launch. There is no site count on record here, so confirm the overnight setup before you plan around it. Hiking and mountain bike trails run through the park itself.
Coldstream is about 3.3 km away and a Centex about 3.1 km, so supplies and fuel are close. Deep Lake is roughly 4.2 km off, and Vernon, with 209 mountain bike trails, about 6.7 km.
