About this site
SourceLakeside camping on the route between Whistler and Lillooet has been the point of Birkenhead Lake Provincial Park since 1963. It has been enlarged twice since then, most recently in 2008, taking in more of the Sockeye Creek watershed and its alpine headwaters. Grizzly and black bears, mountain goats and spotted owls all have habitat here, so store food properly.
The park lists 91 campsites reached on gravel, some reservable and some first come, first served. Fire pits, pit toilets and potable water are standard, with a boat launch, swimming, fishing, hiking and biking on the lake.
The lake is about 3.4 km from camp and Birkenhead Lake Estates about 7 km. The nearest fuel, the N'Quatqua Central Service Station, is roughly 12 km away, so leave with enough for the gravel in both directions. The Cool Creek Canyon trailhead is about 15 km out and Pemberton's riding about 28 km.
