SourceLiard River Hot Springs Provincial Park holds the second largest hot spring in Canada, and easing into the Alpha pool, 42 to 52 degrees, is the whole point of stopping. A boardwalk crosses a warm-water swamp and boreal spruce forest to reach the pools, a setting of national ecological significance.
The campground lists about 53 sites, a mix of reservable and first come, first served, and it is open year-round; winter soaking among frosted trees is its own reward. In summer the campground fills early each day, so build that into the plan. A change house and composting toilet serve the pools.
Fuel is about a kilometre away at the lodge; the park is a classic overnight for Alaska Highway travellers.
