About this site
SourceCatala Island sits in Esperanza Inlet on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island, between Nootka Sound and Kyuquot Sound, and the north camp is one of the places kayakers and boaters stop. Reefs and islets ring the island, and rough trails cross to a small lake and a bog in the middle, past trees bent by Pacific wind.
Camping is wilderness style, with a pit toilet and fire rings, and swimming and fishing straight off the sand. The Rolling Roadstead anchorage holds in calm weather but takes a steady swell once the wind is up, so plan the crossing around that.
Zeballos is about 21 km away and fuel about 30 km, so arrive fully stocked and fuelled.
