About this site

Source

Saysutshun (Newcastle Island Marine) Park has been Nanaimo's escape hatch since the 1930s: a 10 minute passenger ferry, or your own boat, lands you on an island of sandstone cliffs, sunny beaches and forests of Douglas fir, Garry oak, arbutus and big leaf maple.

The campground lists 18 sites and runs on reservations. An extensive trail network links the island's historic sites, Indigenous middens among them, with swimming, fishing, hiking and biking to fill the day. Mallard Lake sits 700 m from camp.

Nanaimo's full services, fuel included, are a few minutes back across the water, which makes this the rare island trip with zero supply anxiety.
