SourceDesignated in 1911, Strathcona Provincial Park is the oldest park in British Columbia, more than 250,000 hectares of peaks, tarns and rivers filling the middle of Vancouver Island. Snow can sit on the higher ground into July, so know what you are walking into before you commit to a high route.
Some of the 160 sites are reservable and the others are first come, first served, with paved access, fire pits, pit toilets and drinking water. Swimming, fishing, hiking, biking and a boat launch round it out.
Gold River is the closest town at about 34 km and the fuel there is the same trip. That is a long way to go for a forgotten item, so shop before you come. Marsh Marigold Lake is about 3.8 km from camp and the Marble Meadows trailhead about 5.2 km.
